In an AI-driven world where automation handles routine tasks, cultivating higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in students becomes paramount... or at least I think so. These skills—critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, ethical reasoning, and adaptability—are uniquely human and essential for future success. We need them and it will be tempting for students NOT to develop them. So with that in mind, here are some humble suggestions for ways to engage students that avoid reliance and dependence on AI interaction and content.
1. Project-Based Learning (PBL)
Description: PBL engages students in sustained, in-depth projects that require planning, research, problem-solving, and presentation.
Activities:
Design Challenges: Students create solutions to real-world problems, such as developing a sustainable energy plan for their community.
Research Projects: Investigate topics like the impact of AI on different industries and present findings.
